Deep Knee Bends While Metal Detecting
Turning trash targets into free exercise
What this clip was about
This round I am showing another reason to take up the metal detecting hobby. Exercise as a result of bending down on one knee to pickup a target. Note how much "trash" I found with each one equating to 1 possibly 2 or more deep knee bends.
The Unexpected Workout of Metal Detecting
Most people think of metal detecting as a treasure-hunting hobby. What they don’t always realize is that it’s also a quiet form of exercise.
Every time the detector beeps and I decide to dig, I’m doing a deep knee bend—sometimes more than one—just to get down and retrieve the target. In this round I focused on how much “trash” I was finding. Each piece of trash still required the same motion: down on one knee, dig, recover, and stand back up. One target, one (or two) deep knee bends.
It’s not glamorous, but it adds up. You’re outside, you’re moving, and you’re turning ordinary trash into a free workout. That’s one of the reasons I keep recommending the hobby to people who want to get moving without signing up for a gym or a structured exercise program.
Next time you’re out, pay attention to how many times you go down on that knee. The trash pile is also your rep count.
See you in the field.
