Metal Detecting In Real Life: It’s Mostly Trash & Can Slaw (Not Gold & Bling)
Hey treasure hunters! Keeping it real with this live hunt highlight — metal detecting in real life isn’t all gold and bling bling. It’s trash, trash, and more trash… also known as can slaw! π
Today was one of those honest sessions. Signal after signal, dig after dig, and most of it turned out to be shredded aluminum and random junk. This is what actual detecting looks like for most of us on a normal day.
The Reality of the Hobby
Metal detectors don’t just find treasure — they find everything people have lost or thrown away over the years. Can slaw (that annoying shredded aluminum) is super common in parks and old yards. It sounds promising, but it’s part of the grind.
Even on days like this, I still love it. Every swing gets me outside, improves my skills, and makes those good finds feel even better when they finally come. The persistence is what makes the hobby rewarding.
