Tough Coinshoot... Did Find 11 Cents!

Searched a city park that I had not been to in several years. Discovered lots of trash which I should have been aware as past notes showed the location was not as productive as others I have searched before Covid. No worries... found two coins - a dime and a penny to make 11 cents! Plus able to show the signal a piece of wires makes on the 1225X

Two More Metal Detecting Tips - Pennies vs Trash and Estimating Depth...? #metaldetecting #fisher1225x #coinshooting

Out and about again, dusting off the cobwebs on past lessons learned when searching with the old Fisher 1225X.  Posted earlier videos on tuning the 1225X and seven tips when using one that readily apply to similar metal detectors.

This next trip to a local park, I remembered two more tips:

  • Determining Pennies vs Trash using the Discrimination setting.
  • Estimating a target's depth by raising the coil in pinpoint mode.

Do check it out; hope it helps others find a coin or two!

Good Luck and Good Detecting!

Seven Metal Detecting Tips

Went on a quick trip to a neighborhood playground that I have not searched for over two years. Hopes were high but was soon apparent that more trash than treasure would be the result.

No worries... able to give the ear an exercise in listening for changes in tones when the target may or may not be a coin.

Did find two pennies as well as coming away with seven lessons learned when detecting with the Fisher 1225X...

  • Changes in tone
  • Changes in direction
  • Perpendicular to sidewalks
  • Searching near metal
  • Lead will fool you
  • Rusted iron tone
  • Increase discrimination to check a target

Do check it out... may be useful for others with a similar metal detector!

Good Luck and Good Detecting!

Tuning the Fisher 1225X Metal Detector #metaldetecting #fisher1225x #metaldetectingtips

Here is a demo of how I like to tune my 30+ year old metal detector - the Fisher 1225X, specifically for coinshooting but with the chance for a ring, too!

The 1225X has a Discrimination knob that goes from 0 to 10, and a Sensitivity knob that goes from 0 to 10 as well.

It has a Pinpoint button that sets Discrimination to 0 to pick up all metals, and is turned on/off by turning the Discrimination knob counterclockwise past the 0 setting.

Additionally, the 1225X's Sensitivity knob doubles as a Battery Tester by turning the knob counterclockwise past the 0 setting.

There should be a steady and loud signal when the test is good.  If the sound fades, is low in volume, or fades, it is likely the batteries need to be replaced... do recommend using the Headphone Jack to prolong the battery life.

For reference, I have my 1225X set at 5.5 Discrimination and 6.5 Sensitivity.  It allows for finding Nickels, some trash like foil and pull tabs but at least there is a "crackling" noise, Clad Coins, and Silver and Gold Rings!

Hope this helps!

More Metal Detecting with the Fisher 1225x! #metaldetecting #coinshooting #fisher1225x

Short on time but able to make a quick trip to a local playground for some coinshooting with the Fisher 1225x Metal Detector. It's 30+ years old but still keeps working. Just gotta remember the different sounds it makes for a given target!

Metal Detecting Again... Woohoo!

Been several months since the parks and playgrounds in our area were closed due to Covid. But, they opened recently. A little dusting off of the old fisher metal detector 1225x and I was back in the swing of things again. This round searched two parks and found a few clad coins and a pendant, too. Else, no precious jewelry or rings. Regardless, coins are always fun to find! Do check back... hope to keep finding more treasures as things open up!
